City of Chaska Council Highlights August 18 Meeting

GTO Program Recap

The Growth Through Opportunities (GTO) Program wrapped up this week. The cadettes, Aidan and Griffin spent the summer working with a variety of City departments:

  • Administrative Services
  • Community Development
  • Electric
  • Fire
  • Golf
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Police
  • Public Works
  • Water & Sewer
  • Administration
  • Engineering

GTO Program 2025

Southwest Park Master Plan Update

Marshall Grange, Parks and Recreation Director, updated the Council on the results of the phase 2 survey. 1,128 surveys were submitted. The top 10 things people are looking for in the park:

  1. Nature Play Area
  2. Splashpad
  3. Open grass/lawn area
  4. Rectangular fields 
  5. Food for purchase options
  6. Non-refrigerated ice-skating area
  7. Baseball/softball fields
  8. Ninja warrior/challenge course
  9. Basketball courts
  10. Pickleball courts

The project team will work to create a draft of the preferred concept plan and evaluate detailed cost estimates. The proposed concept will be brought to the Parks and Recreation Commission in November for their recommendation to City Council

Meadow Park Update

Ashley Cauley, City Planner, updated the Council on the status of Meadow Park. Meadow Park is the neighborhood park that is next to the Public Safety Facility. After an online survey from neighbors, 2 in person open houses and consulting a steering committee made up of City staff, near by residents and HKGi. The park will feature:

  • playground (4,400 sq. ft.) 
  • 20'x20' shelter and trees for shade
  • benches
  • bike racks

Chevalle 19th Addition - Approved Preliminary Plat, Rezoning and Comprehensive Plan Amendment

The proposal includes 10 new single dwelling unites around a new cul-de-sac extension from Talero Curve and an outlot in the SW corner of the property. The Council approved preliminary plat, rezoning and comprehensive plan amendment.
