National Small Business Week

Celebrating Small Business Month

May 2025

May marks Small Business Month, a month-long celebration dedicated to recognizing the vital role small businesses play in strengthening our economy, creating jobs, and enriching our communities.

The celebration kicks off with National Small Business Week, running from May 4–10, 2025, highlighting the innovation, resilience, and impact of small businesses across the country.

Throughout the month, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and other organizations will host a variety of events, webinars, and workshops designed to support small business owners. These resources cover key topics such as financing, business planning, marketing strategies, and more.

Let’s take this opportunity to honor the hardworking entrepreneurs in our community—those who turn ideas into action and passion into progress. Join us in showing your support: shop local, spread the word, and celebrate the spirit of small business!

Business Spotlight -
Nicolet Bank

Location: 706 N Walnut St

Nicolet National Bank originally started in Green Bay Wisconsin in 2000 by two business bankers that didn’t like what they were experiencing working for a large bank. They didn’t see that the customer mattered. They decided to reach out to investors and start their own bank on the premise of Shared Success. Their motto: When our customers succeed, we succeed.

Nicolet Bank was founded on the belief that our job is to create shared success between the 3 Circles of Customers, Shareholders and Employees. We know that each circle can be divergent and have their own interests. Our job is to create balance and grow the space of shared success where the 3 Circles overlap. This is our Vision. We want to matter in our community, matter to each other and matter to our customers.

Curious about the Bank? Here’s what they had to say in response to the following questions.

What makes your bank different from others in the area? Or what types of services do you offer small businesses?

Nicolet is a full-service bank offering great options for both consumers and businesses. Deposit accounts, Home Loans, Consumer Loans in addition to Lending and Deposit options to help businesses of all sizes. Our bankers meet with customers, get to know them and have quality discussions about goals, what’s happening now and how we can help. Our Business Bankers have over 100 years of experience combined with various types of businesses and industries.

What role does your bank play in the local business community or community in general?

Our goal is to be active in the community and give back as much as we can. Whether that’s through sponsorships, volunteerism or just being an advocate for our local businesses. Our employees are asked to take the time with customers to see what they need and not rattle off a bunch of products to make a “sales goal”. That’s not us.

What’s next for the bank? Any upcoming expansions, new services, or goals?

We do hope to expand in the future, but it has to make sense for all. Nicolet has 57 branches in Wisconsin, Michigan and most recently Minnesota but it is important to maintain the Community Bank feel. We do not wish to have branches in large metropolitan cities, we prefer smaller communities like Chaska, where we can matter!

Can you share a success story of a local business you've helped grow?

We have worked with many local businesses for Lines of Credit, Equipment loans, etc. Not to mention our easy to understand business deposit accounts and Cash management products. For instance, we’ve maintained a 20+ year relationship with a local construction company that was on the verge of closing its doors after the real estate crisis of 2008-2010. We were able to work with them, and over time they have become a steady performer again and we have financed many land development projects and construction loans in the area.

What’s one fun or surprising fact people might not know about your bank?

That we have zero affiliation with the very marketing heavy Russell Nicolet of Nicolet Law!! You hear him everywhere but maybe it helps people know how to pronounce our name!

If you’re interested in having your business featured in the update, or if you have information to share, email Julie Grove.
